Background Information
Whereas Reading, Writing, Content Analysis and Storytelling are not new to us, the skills are slowly dying or simply not given the attention they deserve mainly due to the effects of the digital age. Nowadays few people read story books, essay-writing competitions used to be so exciting in the old days, writing story books and novels was very widespread and readers
were on standby, Nowadays if you tell someone to read certain materials and provide a critical analysis of the content…that person is likely to jump to the internet and goggle the summary!

Nowadays few people can seat some audience down and telling an exciting story…instead and powered by the digital age a lot people have adopted the use of the now all popular SMS, WhatsApp messages, Twitter, Emojis and Memes to name just but a few. Different countries in the region are also historically hooked to a certain language(s) depending on who colonized who. While Kenya and Uganda for instance promoted the masterly of English, Kenya and Tanzania on the other hand promoted the masterly of Swahili language but Tanzania seemed to favour more of Swahili than English while Kenya emphasized on the masterly of both languages.

Countries like Burundi and Rwanda have historical ties with French language which together with other local dialects became their national languages, but they are slowly adopting English and Swahili as required of them under the East African
Community-EAC integration protocols while still retaining the French. And because of the ongoing regional integrations, it becomes of utmost importance to citizens of this region to ensure good masterly of all these languages to facilitate doing business and other needs of communicating. Therefore reading, writing and storytelling activities will help them perfect
and own these languages.

Having got independence most recently, South Sudan in particular needs support to expose and bring to the limelight their ability to master many of these languages. Their sterling performers can for instance be show-cased during national and international events to champion their plights.

Target Countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Cameroon,
Zambia, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Congo
Brazzaville, South Sudan and Gabon.
